EISA PEC 26 Call for Papers
Call for papers for the 19th Pan-European Conference on International Relations, 1–4 September 2026, Lisbon.
Political Economy Beyond Boundaries is inviting paper, panel and roundtable proposals for its sixth instalment as a standing section.
Now entering its sixth year, PEBB remains committed to developing and sustaining a research network of scholars working in and beyond International Studies, with the aim of promoting and advancing critical scholarship on the global political economy. As such, we welcome contributions from scholars across the social sciences and humanities.
A core objective of PEBB since its establishment has been to contribute to overcoming the pitfalls of Eurocentric knowledge production in (International) Political Economy. In this spirit, we continue to prioritise and promote knowledge produced in and for the global South, and seek to use PEBB as a platform for fostering meaningful collaborations between scholars in the global South and North.
As it has been the case since PEBB was first established, we are keen to provide a platform particularly for scholars who are researching these themes:
- Critical perspectives on global governance and geoeconomic competition
- Racial capitalism
- (Critical) political economies of AI
- Climate breakdown (extraction, dispossession, climate justice, food sovereignty, ‘green transition’)
- Social reproduction & production
- Democracy, emancipation, and political and socio-economic alternatives
- State, capital and labour in and of the global South
- Political economy engagements with crises and conflict, with a focus on perspectives from the global South
- Empirical and theoretical engagements with Marxist, feminist, and more broadly critical political economy, with a focus on perspectives from the global South
- Mentoring/career development sessions for doctoral researchers/ECRs and scholars from the global South
As has historically been the case, we are also happy to consider proposals engaging with other relevant themes and topics in the broad field of political economy.
In keeping with last year’s successful ‘Research Wives’ roundtable, this year we are taking the experimentation in format one step further. We are looking to organise a ‘Subway Takes: PEBB Edition’ roundtable: four academics present one ‘hot take’ each in three minutes, to be the probed and examined by the interviewer and the audience. We will consider ‘hot takes’ on diverse topics relevant to our work and lives in the discipline of political economy. Do you have any ‘hot takes’ you’d like to share in Lisbon? Do get in touch with Mel (melissa.johnston@uq.edu.au) and Roberto (roberto.roccu@kcl.ac.uk) to let us know.
We strongly encourage our participants, especially those who are doctoral researchers, ECRs, precarious academics, and working in the global South, to consider applying for funding provided by the EISA Mobility Fund. You can find further information about the different grants provided here.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have questions about any of the above or would like to discuss your proposals. We very much hope to see you in Lisbon!
